How the free tools handle your files

People use these tools for passport photos, signatures, certificates, Aadhaar and PAN documents. That is personal, and this page sets out plainly what happens to a file you put into any tool on this site.

The short version

56 of our 62 tools never send your file anywhere. They do the work inside your own browser, on your own phone or computer. The remaining 6 handle formats a browser cannot read; those files come to our server, are converted, and are deleted immediately.

No file you use with these tools is ever added to the website’s media library, kept as a backup, or stored in our database.

Tools that work inside your browser

Modern browsers can open, redraw and re-save a picture without any help from a server. Every tool in this list does exactly that. When you choose a file, the browser reads it from your device into its own memory, does the work, and hands you the result to save. Nothing is transmitted. You can prove this to yourself: load the tool page, switch your phone to aeroplane mode, and the tool will still work.

Tools that need our server, and what we do about it

A few formats cannot be opened by any browser: HEIC photos from an iPhone, TIFF scans, and saving an animated GIF. For those, and only those, the file is sent to our server over an encrypted connection.

Here is exactly what happens on the server:

  1. Your file arrives and is checked — we read its actual contents to confirm it is the format it claims to be.
  2. It is converted in the server’s memory. It is given a random name and is never written anywhere a web address could reach.
  3. The result is sent straight back to you in the same reply. There is no download link, so there is nothing for anyone else to find.
  4. The uploaded file is deleted before the reply finishes — not later, by a scheduled job.
  5. If the conversion fails, the upload is deleted just the same.

As a safety net, a cleanup job runs every hour and removes anything left behind by a request that was cut off part-way — for instance if your connection dropped. Nothing survives longer than 60 minutes. That working folder sits outside the website folder entirely, so files in it have no web address at all.

What we never do

  • We do not add your file to the WordPress media library.
  • We do not keep a permanent copy, a backup, or a copy in cloud storage.
  • We do not store your file, its contents, or any text read out of it in our database.
  • We do not record what your file was called or link any file to you.
  • We do not require an account, an email address or a phone number to use a tool.
  • We do not read, open or look at your documents.

What we do record

For the server-based tools we count how many conversions have come from your internet connection in the last hour, so that nobody can overload the server. That counter holds a one-way scrambled form of your IP address and a number, nothing else, and it clears itself after an hour. Our web host also keeps ordinary server logs of page requests, as every website does; those record the address of the page, not the contents of any file.

Where the browser tools get their code

The larger tools — PDF handling and reading text out of an image — use well-known open-source libraries, which your browser downloads from a public code network (cdnjs) the first time you use that tool. Your file is not involved in that download: the code comes to you, your file does not go anywhere.

Your own responsibility

Please think before you upload. Share only the document you actually need to work on, and only on a device you trust. If a tool offers to keep working offline, use it that way. If you are on a shared or public computer, clear your downloads folder when you have finished — the converted file is saved there like any other download, and that part is outside our control.

Doing it at the shop instead

If you would rather hand the document to a person, bring it to the shop. Work we do for you is covered by our main privacy policy, and you can ask us to delete anything we hold through the data deletion request form.
