Online application forms usually want a signature as a small, wide image, often around 140 x 60 pixels and only a few KB. A photograph taken on a phone is nothing like that: it is several thousand pixels across and a few megabytes, so the form rejects it.
This tool fixes both problems at once. Choose the dimensions your form asks for, and optionally a maximum file size, and you get an image that fits.
The quality of the result depends almost entirely on the photograph you start with. Sign in black or dark blue ink on plain white, unlined paper. Fill most of the sheet with the signature rather than writing it small. Photograph it from directly above in good daylight, not under a single bulb, so there is no shadow across the paper and no angle distorting the shape.
If the picture comes out grey or dim, run it through the brightness tool first and push the contrast up until the paper is white and the ink is solid black. A signature that is crisp before resizing stays readable afterwards; one that is already faint will not survive being shrunk.
140 x 60 pixels is the most commonly requested size, and many forms also cap the file at around 20 KB. Other forms ask for different numbers, so use whatever your own form states — the sizes in the list here are only the common ones.
Use the Image Brightness Adjuster first. Raise the contrast until the paper is clean white and the ink is solid, then come back and resize. Shrinking a faint signature makes it fainter.
Fit. A signature is wide and thin, so filling the frame would cut the ends off. "Fit the whole signature and pad with white" keeps all of it and adds white space around it, which is what a form expects.
