iPhones save photographs as HEIC by default. It is an efficient format — about half the size of a JPG for the same quality — but very little outside the Apple world can read it. Windows often cannot open one without an extra download, and most government portals reject it outright.

This converts a HEIC to an ordinary JPG that opens on any device and uploads anywhere.

No web browser can decode HEIC, so this is one of the few tools here that has to use our server. Your photo is sent over an encrypted connection, converted, and sent straight back in the same reply; the upload is deleted before the reply finishes, and the location data your iPhone stored in the photo is stripped out in the process.

If you would rather avoid the conversion entirely, you can set the iPhone to take JPGs from the start: Settings, then Camera, then Formats, then Most Compatible.

How to use it

  1. Choose your files, or drag them onto the box above.
  2. Press the convert button and wait a moment.
  3. Download the result. Nothing is kept once you leave the page.

Questions

Why will my iPhone photo not open on Windows?

Because it is a HEIC file, and Windows does not read that format without an extra codec. Converting to JPG makes it open anywhere.

How do I stop my iPhone making HEIC files?

Settings, then Camera, then Formats, then choose Most Compatible. The camera will save JPG from then on.

Is my photo stored on your server?

No. HEIC cannot be read by a browser, so the file is sent to our server, converted, and returned in the same response. The upload is deleted before that response finishes and no copy is kept.

Is the location data removed?

Yes. The conversion strips the metadata, including any GPS coordinates recorded when the photo was taken.

Is this tool free?

Yes. Every tool here is free, and you do not need an account, an email address or a phone number.

What happens to my file?

The browser cannot read this format, so the file is sent to our server, converted, and sent straight back. The uploaded file and the result are deleted as soon as you download them, and in any case within 60 minutes. They are never added to the website media library.

Which files can I use?

This tool accepts HEIC (.heic). The largest file it will take is 25 MB.
