PNG preserves transparency exactly, where converting to JPG would fill it with a solid colour. The file will be noticeably larger, because PNG stores every pixel precisely rather than approximating.
If the image is an ordinary photograph with no transparency, WebP to JPG gives a much smaller file and is the better conversion.
