Scanners, fax machines and professional printing systems produce TIFF files. They are high quality and often very large, and no web browser can display one, which is why a TIFF scan is so awkward to deal with.

Converting to JPG makes the scan small enough to email and upload, and viewable on any device.

If the TIFF has several pages — common with a multi-page scan — the first page is converted. For a multi-page document it is usually better to make a PDF, which keeps all the pages together in one file.

Since browsers cannot read TIFF, the conversion runs on our server and the uploaded file is deleted as soon as the result is returned.

How to use it

  1. Choose your files, or drag them onto the box above.
  2. Press the convert button and wait a moment.
  3. Download the result. Nothing is kept once you leave the page.

Files it accepts

  • TIFF (.tiff)
  • Up to 25 MB per file
  • Up to 10 files at once

Questions

My TIFF has several pages. What happens?

The first page is converted. For a multi-page document, convert the pages to images and combine them with the Image to PDF tool so they stay together.

Will the scan still be readable?

Yes at the default quality. If it is a document with small print, check the result at full size before you submit it.

Is this tool free?

Yes. Every tool here is free, and you do not need an account, an email address or a phone number.

What happens to my file?

The browser cannot read this format, so the file is sent to our server, converted, and sent straight back. The uploaded file and the result are deleted as soon as you download them, and in any case within 60 minutes. They are never added to the website media library.

Which files can I use?

This tool accepts TIFF (.tiff). The largest file it will take is 25 MB.
