It is a very wide, shallow strip, so most photographs have to lose a great deal of their top and bottom to fit. Keep anything important — faces, text, a logo — near the middle, because the edges behave differently on a phone than on a computer: the mobile app shows a narrower slice of the same image.

Questions
Why does my cover look different on my phone?
Facebook shows a narrower portion of the same image on mobile. Keeping the important part in the centre is the only reliable way to have it work on both.
Most of my photo got cut off.
A cover is very wide and shallow, so that is unavoidable for a normal photograph. Crop it to roughly that shape yourself first, with the Image Cropper, so you choose what survives.
Is this tool free?

Is my file uploaded to your server?
