An SVG is not a grid of pixels at all — it is a set of instructions describing shapes, lines and curves. That is why an SVG logo stays perfectly sharp at any size, from a favicon to a hoarding.

Turning it into a PNG fixes it at one particular size, so choose that size carefully. Pick the width you actually need: 512 pixels for an app icon, 1024 or 2048 for something that will be printed or shown large. The height follows automatically from the drawing's proportions.

Transparency is preserved, which is usually the point — logos are generally drawn on a transparent background.

Keep the original SVG. Once converted to PNG, the image can no longer be enlarged without going soft; the original can be re-exported at any size forever.

Questions

What width should I choose?

Whatever the largest size you will display it at. 512 pixels suits an app icon, 1024 to 2048 for print or a large banner. Too small cannot be undone.

Is the background transparent?

Yes, if the SVG has no background of its own. PNG keeps it transparent.

My SVG would not open.

SVGs that pull in external images or fonts cannot be rendered safely here. An SVG that contains only shapes and paths converts without trouble.

Is this tool free?

Yes. Every tool here is free, and you do not need an account, an email address or a phone number.

Is my file uploaded to your server?

No. This tool runs inside your own browser, so the file never leaves your phone or computer. Once the page has loaded you can even switch off your internet connection and the tool will still work.

Which files can I use?

This tool accepts SVG (.svg). The largest file it will take is 25 MB.
