WebP was designed to replace both JPG and PNG, and it genuinely does make smaller files than either at the same visible quality — often 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG.
That makes it an excellent format for a website, where the saving means faster pages. It is a poor choice for anything you need to hand to someone else, because older software and many government portals still do not accept it. If the file is going into a form, convert it to JPG instead.
As with JPG, 75 to 85 percent quality is the sensible range for photographs.
