Forms do not all use round numbers. If yours asks for 35 KB, or 80 KB, or 1 MB, type the figure in and this tool works towards it.

It lowers the JPG quality in steps, measuring the real file size each time, and keeps the best result that fits. If quality alone cannot reach your number and the resize option is ticked, it reduces the dimensions too and tries again.

Two settings are worth understanding. The quality floor stops the tool destroying the picture in pursuit of an impossible target: if your number cannot be reached above that floor, it stops and tells you how close it got. The output format matters as well — JPG gives much smaller files for photographs, while PNG is better for screenshots and drawings but far larger for the same picture.

If you need a figure in megabytes, multiply by 1024: 1 MB is 1024 KB, 2 MB is 2048 KB.

Questions

How do I set a target in MB?

Multiply by 1024 and enter the result in KB. 1 MB is 1024, 1.5 MB is 1536, 2 MB is 2048.

Why does the tool stop before reaching my number?

Because of the quality floor. It will not keep degrading the picture past the point you set. Lower the floor if you truly need the smaller file.

Which output format should I pick?

JPG for photographs, every time. PNG only if the image is a screenshot, a logo or a drawing with flat colours, or if it needs transparency.

Is this tool free?

Yes. Every tool here is free, and you do not need an account, an email address or a phone number.

Is my file uploaded to your server?

No. This tool runs inside your own browser, so the file never leaves your phone or computer. Once the page has loaded you can even switch off your internet connection and the tool will still work.

Which files can I use?

This tool accepts JPG, PNG and WebP. The largest file it will take is 25 MB.
