Some application forms ask for a thumb impression alongside the photograph and signature, usually as a small square image with a file size limit to match.

Take the impression with a clean ink pad on plain white paper, press once firmly without rolling the thumb sideways, and let it dry before photographing it. Photograph it from directly above in good light. Then set the size your form asks for here.

As with a signature, keep the fit mode on "fit the whole impression" so the ridges are not cropped. If the photograph came out grey, raise the contrast with the brightness tool before resizing — a thumb impression that is already faint will not survive being made smaller.

Questions

What size should a thumb impression be?

There is no single answer; it depends on the form. 240 x 240 pixels is a common square size, and some forms use the same 140 x 60 as the signature. Use the size your own form states.

The impression is smudged.

No tool can unsmudge it. Take it again with less ink, press straight down without rolling, and let it dry fully before photographing.

Is this tool free?

Yes. Every tool here is free, and you do not need an account, an email address or a phone number.

Is my file uploaded to your server?

No. This tool runs inside your own browser, so the file never leaves your phone or computer. Once the page has loaded you can even switch off your internet connection and the tool will still work.

Which files can I use?

This tool accepts JPG, PNG and WebP. The largest file it will take is 25 MB.
